Content Rating Requirements - Unrated Apps Are Not Allowed on Google Play (July 2026 Clarification)

1. Every app on Google Play must have a content rating issued by the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) - Google reaffirmed in the July 15, 2026 policy announcement that apps without a content rating are not allowed on Google Play, and the official policy states apps without a content rating will be removed from the Play Store. 2. Complete the rating questionnaire in Play Console for every app - both new apps at submission time and all existing apps already live on Google Play must have an accurate, completed questionnaire; apps that stay unrated are pulled from distribution. 3. Answer the questionnaire honestly - it asks about the nature of your app's content (violence, sexual content, gambling, in-app purchases, user interactions, and more), and misrepresenting your app's content on the questionnaire can result in removal or suspension. 4. Re-submit the questionnaire whenever app content or features change in a way that affects your answers - the assigned rating only reflects the content inside your app, so new features, user-generated content, or ad changes can require a fresh questionnaire before you publish the update. 5. Ads count too - any ads served in the app must not be significantly more mature in content than the primary content of the app itself; ad content is governed by the Inappropriate Ads policy and is not covered by your content rating. 6. Understand the consequences of being unrated or high-maturity - unrated apps are treated like high-maturity apps for parental controls, ratings can cause your app to be filtered or blocked in certain territories or for specific users where required by law, and ratings affect eligibility for special developer programs. 7. If you disagree with the assigned rating, appeal directly to the IARC rating authority using the link in your certificate email; if an authority issues a Refused classification, Google Play removes the app in the applicable territory only.
