1. Announced July 15, 2026: the READ_CALL_LOG permission can no longer be used for account verification via phone call, and developers have at least 30 days to update their apps. 2. Migrate account verification to the Digital Credentials API, either directly or through a verification provider built on it. 3. For phone-number verification, use the SMS Retriever API or other approved alternative APIs instead of reading call logs. 4. Declare SMS/Call Log permissions in the Play Console permissions declaration form and make sure your actual usage matches the declared use case. 5. Audit your app and its SDKs now: remove or replace any call-log reading used for verification before the deadline. 6. Apps that fail to comply risk enforcement after the grace period, including removal from Google Play. 7. Combine this cleanup with the August 31, 2026 target API level deadline to avoid double re-submissions.
